Learn with a practical, hands-on curriculum

Evidence-based and deeply practical, this course is bursting with high-impact, tried-and-tested strategies for dealing with all kinds of behaviour in secondary settings, proactively and in the moment. Created and led by behaviour-management expert and experienced teacher Nikki Cunningham-Smith.

Class 1

Thursday 21 September

Behaviour management fundamentals

You’ll learn to:

● Create the right environment, mastering rules, routines and consistency

● Really get to know and understand your pupils – relationships are key!

● Follow your whole-school behaviour policy and make it work for you

Practical classroom-management strategies

You’ll learn:

● Tried-and-tested classroom-management strategies, and how to make them work for you!

● Strategies to avoid, and what to do instead

Class 3

Thursday 16 November

Targeted approaches for more challenging behaviour

You’ll learn:

● How to adapt your approach to meet the needs of individual pupils

● Specific strategies for supporting pupils with challenging behaviour

● How to respond to incidents of difficult behaviour

Embedding learning and looking ahead

You’ll:

● Cover bespoke topics that you asked us for last time!

● Have one last chance to put your questions directly to Nikki

● Have time to reflect on all that you've learnt over the course

Your expert course trainer

Nikki Cunningham-Smith is Aspire Manager and SENCO across Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.

She has extensive experience of working with pupils with challenging behaviour in pupil referral units and secondary schools across the country, as a teacher and senior leader. She's the author of Feel Free To Smile: The Behaviour Management Survival Guide for New Teachers, coaches teachers to support them with behaviour management and writes about behaviour for Tes. You can find her on her blog.

Nikki runs all the live classes, poses questions and activities for small-group discussions and sets gap tasks for you to complete independently.

Frequently asked questions

Live classes are held on Zoom, and you’ll collaborate on practical tasks with small groups of colleagues in breakout rooms. You’ll have practical tasks to complete independently between classes, and 24/7 access to your own online course community forum.

Ideally, yes! Working together with your colleagues is where much of the magic happens, and you’ll have opportunities to ask Nikki questions directly. But we know that some school days run away, so you’ll be able to catch up on-demand if you have to miss a class. This course moves quickly, so we’ll let you know when the class recording is available.

Deeply practical tasks. They’ll help you put learning into practice immediately and get ahead on work you need to complete in your day-to-day role. You might work with colleagues on a task, and get supportive feedback.

Yes! This course was built for busy teachers. Nikki will lead an online class every few weeks across the term, after school at 4pm. Outside of that, expect practical tasks to complete at any point ahead of the next class, and an on-tap peer community to engage with as you like. All your practical tasks will directly relate to your day job - they’ll never take you more than an hour.

Yes! You’ll get a certificate on completion of the course.
